A Mother’s Day Garden Party: Brunch for Dinner

There’s something incredibly special about gathering women around a table.

Especially women who support you, encourage you, and make motherhood feel a little lighter.

Last year, I moved into a neighborhood filled with families, never expecting that I would meet such a special group of women who would become such an important part of my life. Women who show up for each other unconditionally. Women who understand the beauty and complexity of motherhood firsthand.

So this Mother’s Day, I wanted to celebrate them.

Not with anything overly formal or extravagant—but with something intentional, beautiful, and welcoming.

I hosted what I called a “garden party brunch for dinner” mid-week gathering for my girlfriends, and it ended up becoming one of my favorite dinner parties I’ve ever hosted.

Keeping It Beautiful and Realistic

As a busy mom, I simply didn’t have the time (or honestly, the desire) to make every single thing from scratch.

And I’ve learned that hosting becomes so much more enjoyable when I allow myself to save time where I can.

So instead of stressing myself out, I stopped by my local Bristol Farms deli and picked up a few fresh, delicious, and beautifully prepared dishes that felt light, elevated, and easy to serve.

Here’s What I Bought

  • Mediterranean Cous Cous Salad
  • Spinach & Mozzarella Pasta Salad
  • Rotisserie Chicken

These were simple crowd-pleasers that paired perfectly together and made the evening feel effortless while still feeling thoughtful.

What I Made

To add something homemade to the table, I prepared:

Dill + Cream Cheese Cucumber Sandwiches 🥒

They felt classic, fresh, and perfect for the garden party feel I wanted to create.

Dessert

For dessert, I kept things easy and beautiful with a few favorites from Trader Joe’s:

  • Passion Fruit Meringue Tartelettes
  • Macaroon Variety Pack

Both looked beautiful on the table and required absolutely no extra prep—which, as a mom, is always appreciated.

The Decor Details

Honestly, the little details were what made the evening feel so special.

I found:

  • Sage green trimmed paper plates
  • Scalloped bamboo serving trays for hors d’oeuvres
  • Succulent-print napkins
  • Mini floral bouquets with daisies, baby’s breath, and purple flowers

The tiny bouquets doubled as both decor and little party favors for each guest, which made the table feel thoughtful without needing an elaborate setup.

The overall look felt soft, organic, playful, and elevated—exactly the atmosphere I wanted for the evening.

The Best Part

The entire dinner party went off without a hitch.

But more importantly, it reminded me that gathering people you love doesn’t need to be overly complicated to be meaningful.

Sometimes the best evenings happen when we stop chasing perfection and simply create space for connection.

So take this as your reminder:
Host the dinner. Invite the friends. Use the paper plates. Buy the prepared salad. Light the candles anyway.

The memories will matter far more than whether everything was homemade.

Shop the Details

If you recreate your own brunch-for-dinner gathering, I’d truly love to see it. Tag me or send me a message—I love seeing how others gather and celebrate the people they love most.
